Kaduna gov dragged to ICC over genocide

A group, Southern Kaduna Indigenes Progressive
Forum (SKIPFo) yesterday said it has compiled
enough documentary and other relevant
information enough to drag Governor Mukhtar
Ramalan Yero to the Internal Criminal Court (ICC) in
the Hague for what it said was genocide against
the Atakad people of Kaura Local Government
Area in the southgern part of Kaduna State.
A Press Statement signed by the Chairman of the
registered group, Major George Asake (rtd) said
that its lawyers were working in concert with other
experts to file genocide charges against Yero, and
possibly seek his extradition to stand prosecution
even after he would have left office.
SKIPFo which gave a detail tabulated sequence of
the invasions of Atakad communities and other
parts of Southern Kaduna since 2011 said about
160 people have lost their lives, 202 wounded and
over 1000 houses set ablaze.
Reads part of the Statement made available to
Saturday Vanguard: “On the 15th February, 2012,
Rev Joseph Hayab, Special Assistant to the
Governor on Christian Affairs, and Mallam Halliru
Maraya, Special Assistant to the Governor on
Muslims Affairs and Ishaku Dogo Makama,
Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management
Agency (SEMA) Kaduna State said at a Press
Conference that after pocketing not less than
N564 billion in cash, apart from food stuff and
other relief materials, Internally Displaced Persons
(all Hausa/Fulani Muslims from Zonkwa) from the
last April 2011 polls violence, had refused to leave
the Hajj Camp, in Kawo, Kaduna. That was when
Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was in power
·”While the aforementioned enjoyed so much
largesse from Yakowa, Yero on his part is not
known to have offered a kobo to the much
publicised 10,000 Takad refugees.
“Governor Yero knows well that the Takad are
now under starvation since the Fulani made it
impossible for them to return and cultivate their
farm. Most of them are sick, traumatized without
any form of assistance even as more violence is
being visited on them on a daily basis under the
watch of Yero.
“There is no further prove to show how he hates
Southern Kaduna People and encourages the
systematic genocide of the Takad by starvation and
violence
“Encouraged, by the feeble security in place, a
band of ravaging Fulani militants invaded Takad
villages again last Monday, and wiped out all the
inhabitants before razing the villages into ashes.”

Fayemi air his veiw over the defected senators

Gbenga Ariyibi Ado Ekiti
Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has
cautioned the senate President, Chief David Mark
to stop playing politics with the issue of 11
defecting members of senate, saying the senators
are free to join the party of their choice.
The senate president is yet to read the letter of
former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators
who defected to All Progressive Congress
Fayemi made the statement in reaction to the
brouhaha dogging the defection of Senator Bukola
Saraki and other ten Peoples Democratic Party
senators on Thursday at his country home, Isan
Ekiti in Oye Local Government while participating
in the ongoing APC nationwide membership
registration exercise.
He posited that the cries over alleged withholding
of letters of some defecting Senators by Senator
Mark is immaterial, saying the issue is a
constitutional matter , “which cannot be
personalized by anybody”.
“Senator Mark should believe that the defection of
these 11 Senators from PDP to APC is a
statement of fact. You can’t abort a baby that had
already been born.
“Whether the senate President in his wisdom
chose to accept or reject the letter , is immaterial
as far as this is concerned because they have
started attending APC meeting. Some of them have
even registered as APC ,members in this ongoing
exercise.
“What we are witnessing in the polity is a
revolutionary process . Many have defected from
other parties into APC and some are still
defecting. You will still witness more high profile
defections , even in this State , but I won’t share it
with you now”.
He commended members of his party for turning
out in large number, saying “the reports we are
getting from all the 16 Local Governments is
encouraging. The mobilization drive is high and it
has been yielding results”.
The governor called on APC members to continue
to defend the integrity of the party and be vigila

20 people killed in Jos

About 20 people were again killed in Plateau
State, yesterday, when gunmen invaded Mavou
village in Wase Local Government Area.
The latest killing is coming barely 48 hours after
over 30 people were killed in two villages of Riyom
LGA.
Reports from Wase said the attackers who invaded
the village at abut 2a.m. also torched abut 10
houses.
A resident who gave his name as Nangak said the
attackers came in large number and shot
sporadically as they raided the village.
The motive for the attack could not be immediately
ascertained, but there had been skirmishes among
communities in the local government for some
time now.
It was learnt that additional security had been
deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Felicia
Anslem confirmed the attack, but said she was yet
to get the details.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Netherlands to
Nigeria, Mr. John Groffen had urged citizens of
Plateau State to sustain the peace being
maintained in the state ahead of coming elections,
describing peace as key to development.
Speaking, yesterday, while on an assessment visit
to the University of Jos, he said the Royal Dutch
Embassy was impressed with the efforts made by
the institution in sustaining the peace in the
communities in the state.
“The Kingdom of Netherlands has respect for
Nigeria and cooperation has always existed
between both countries. Nigeria is a power house
in Africa hence its stability is vital to Netherlands.
“We are impressed by the institution’s
achievements in peace building. As the state is
getting set for local government election and the
country prepares for the general elections next
year, we know security issues are of importance to
the stability of Nigeria and we urge all to continue
to be peaceable,” he said.

Monarch begs Abia ,Fg to save his community from flood

The Traditional Ruler of Etiti Ohazu Autonomous
Community, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government
Area, Abia, Eze Ishmael Nnakwu, on Thursday
appealed to Federal and Abia Governments to save
his community from flooding.
Nnakwu made the plea in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba.
He said that the floods which have created deep
gullies and made the community a disaster-prone
zone required urgent assistance.
“We were sometimes classified by the Federal
Ministry of Health as people living in swampy area
of Aba South.
“This is not a swampy area, but a place where a
large number of Aba residents reside.
“But the condition of our roads without drainage
systems has made it look like a swampy area. We
are living in a disaster area of Aba South Local
Government Area.
“We suffered from lots of epidemics. I have made
series of reports to National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA) and Abia State
Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), but to no
avail.
“My reports made no impact. My community is
usually submerged by flood at the slightest rain,”
he said.
He said the condition of roads in the area was
made worse by lack of refuse buckets in the area,
adding that the development had caused
uncoordinated refuse disposal and its attendant
environmental crisis.
“Although we are paying infrastructure levy, ASEPA
fees and others, we do not know why there is no
help coming to us.
“We are requesting that ASEPA should bring their
refuse bins to strategic places on Obohia Road and
make efforts to remove them constantly to avoid
epidemics.
“We are also appealing to Abia government to save
our soul. In Ngwa Ward 4, we gave one of the
largest votes both to the president and the
governor. I see no reason why we should be
suffering.’’ (NAN)

Ribadu prescribe recipe for APC's sucess

Presidential candidate of the defunct Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu
has said that the success of the newly formed
mega opposition party, the All Progressives
Congress (APC), defends on the unity of
stakeholders at all levels.
Speaking to reporters in Yola, the Adamawa state
capital, after picking his APC membership card at
his Aliyu Mustafa College unit, Ribadu explained
that the party must consolidate the goodwill and
popularity it enjoys at the grassroots by ensuring
unity of its leaders and other key stakeholders.
“The saying; united we stand, divided we fall is
very true. If we want to accomplish our mission,
we must work sincerely as a team. We must not
allow any crack that our detractors can leverage
on,” he said.
He therefore charged leaders of the party to put the
interest of the party and Nigeria first before
individual aspirations and interests, if the party was
to make progress.
“At this time, the party is still at formative stage.
What is expected of all of us is to come together
and take this party to a higher level. Aspirations
are legitimate in politics but we should not allow
the party and Nigeria to suffer because of our
individual interest,” he added.
According to him, as a party currently with
divergent views and with eminent citizens as
members, APC has grown beyond individuals to a
truly democratic party where decisions are taken
collectively, with the involvement of all
stakeholders.
On Nigerians’ expectations on the party, Ribadu
noted that APC will ensure investment in critical
sectors of the socio-economy. He said, what is
seen in states governed by the party will be
replicated at the centre come 2015.
While advocating for support for the party, the APC
chieftain called on Nigerians to come out en masse
to subscribe to the party which, he said, is a way
of making their voices heard when it comes to
decision making.
